- Runs hands-free on a NinjaTrader VPS
Why automate it
Quick Dow moves need a plan that is already running.
Dow futures can move quickly after the 9:30 AM open. Gandalf takes the same entry the same way every time, without second-guessing.
Its bracket uses a small target and a wider stop, so it relies on being right often. One stop costs about three targets, which is why it stops for the day after a loss. The included ATM template sets the bracket for you.
Micro Dow (MYM) is one tenth the size of the standard YM contract, so Gandalf fits next to the Nasdaq and S&P strategies on the same account. How the shared risk guard works.
Contract facts
| Contract | Symbol | Tick | Tick value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro E-mini Dow | MYM | 1 index point | $0.50 |
| E-mini Dow ($5) | YM | 1 index point | $5.00 |
Exchange contract specifications from CME Group. Margins and fees depend on your broker or prop firm.
Dow automation questions
Which lines does Gandalf use?
The Fast line and Ange190. It enters when the two come into agreement inside its window. The exact settings are part of the licensed strategy.
Can I run Gandalf on the full-size YM contract?
It ships with an MYM template. One YM contract carries ten times the dollar risk per point, so only switch if your account is built for it.
Why does Gandalf stop after one loss?
Its target is smaller than its stop, so a loss takes back several wins. Stopping for the day after a loss keeps one bad morning from turning into a bad week.
Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss. Automated strategies can and do lose, and past performance is not indicative of future results. Read the risk disclosure.
